Connecticut Parrot Rescue
Adopt. Don’t Shop.
A resource for companion parrots in need, and those who love them.
Connecticut Parrot Rescue was founded in July 2015 and as of September 2016, became an official 501c3 non-profit public charity. We are completely run by Connecticut-based volunteer foster homes, who aid the transition and rehabilitation processes of companion parrots into loving adoptive homes. Please browse our website to learn more about our organization, our exciting partnerships, how you can get involved and of course... our amazing adoptable parrots! We strive to give our parrots the best possible care, and then integrate them into suitable and loving homes.

Meet Our Birds
Buckle
Buckle is an Amazon and is estimated to be in his 50s. He has been hand-tamed.
He will do best with someone who is either a vet/vet tech and/or has extensive experience caring for and supporting older special needs birds. He is being treated for underlying health and ongoing eye issues.
When he’s feeling well, he loves to hang outside of his cage and prefers a quieter house.
Prefers women and allows scritches and will take treats from your hand.
May be best in home where there are few-no other birds or animals.
Adoption Fee: will be applied to vet care and prescription costs and supplies
Jekyll & Phoenix
Jekyll (GCC) and Phoenix (BC Conure) are a bonded pair. They are very sweet and curious. They know how to step up and like attention! Jekyll is a bit friendlier of the two and is happy to fly on your arm, head and come to people while Phoenix is a bit more reserved and likes to get to know you before he is comfortable with you. They can be noisy in the mornings. I have found that usually that is just them calling to be let out of their cage. Once they are out, they are much quieter and enjoy flight time. They would do well in a home where they can be out of their cage for a good portion of the day.

Kahlua
Kahlua is a male Moluccan cockatoo who is approximately 31 years old. He came to stay with us in hopes of finding a home that can love him and give him attention while respecting that stepping up and being handled is a bit scary for him.
Kahlua previously had a female avian mate who passed away many years ago. He has shown that he does like human companionship. He was with the same family for many years until his human female caregiver passed away after a long illness this year. As a result of his owner's long term illness, we aren't certain that Kahlua was able to receive much out of cage time and attention.
Despite all that Kahlua has been through, he is very sweet for the right person. He loves head scritches, attention, and playing with toys. He has discovered that he loves pumpkin birdy bread treats, fruit, and nuts. He has also converted to a healthy pellet diet.
He is very gentle and has not attempted to bite or be aggressive with humans who respect and read his body language. He is scared of some males.
Like all cockatoos, Kahlua can be loud at times; but it is limited to short bursts when he wants attention or breakfast is late.
Because of this, Kahlua will need to be in a freestanding home, not an apartment or condo. Kahlua will need frequent toy replacements (he loves his toys) and a human who can establish and stick to behavior boundaries, reward good behavior, and keep him on a schedule with predictable structure. He will need time and patience in order to be handled.
Kahlua had a full check up at the avian vet and is very healthy. He had previously plucked out his chest feathers. He has not exhibited any plucking activity since he has been with us in foster care.

Moshka & Ryzhyk
Moshka, the green cheeked conure, loves to be out of the cage and with his human flock.
He lived in the same house for all 6+ years prior to being surrendered to the rescue. His previous owner believes he is a boy, but is not certain.
Moshka is curious and spunky and loves to dance. He can take a little bit of patience as he learns to trust his caregivers, but once you are in, he will let you scratch and cuddle him. He is a fun bird, full of personality.
He likes to be out of his cage so anyone interested should have the ability to let him freely move out of his enclosure for at least part of the day.
Ryzhyk, the sun conure, is much more reserved.
She likes to be in the room but prefers to watch at more of a distance. She will sit on a shoulder but is cautious when stepping up onto a hand. She, too, takes some time to warm up but given time, starts to interact more. She also enjoys time out of her cage where she can move around her environment.
It is not known how/if they would interact with children since they have never been around children. We do know that the green cheek conure is very particular about who he/she likes. He was in love with the the parent sitter [in his foster home] and her husband. S/he really loves the foster mom, but does not like her husband.
A special note from the foster: Be aware that the sun conure is loud. Not all the time but if he wants to come out of the cage he'll let you know.
They need to be adopted together and come with a cage.
